Who else misses a handshake? We are all talking about how much we miss hugging; but I miss handshakes.
Years ago, I attended a class, the instructor was *Steve Oniki, and he shared his view on the importance of a handshake in doing business. My dad taught me, as a young girl, to give a good handshake. “Firm, but don’t break their hand, look them in the eyes, and let them be the first to let go.” I naturally became a two handed-handshaker. There are, according to Mr. Oniki, four personality types based on a person’s handshake. I bet you’ve shaken hands with someone who practically broke your hand…yikes! Well, you know, they are the ones who want to be in control. No problem, as long as I know that up front, I can be very flexible.
Without going into too much detail about the 3 other types; as a “two-handed hand shaker” you can imagine, I am what’s known as a “tactile” learner. I touch arms, I hug, I touch fabric, I run my hands along countertops and tree trunks…Yes, the virus has totally crippled my ability to “read” a person through touch as well as hindering one of my greatest connections made with “tactile” buyers…the simple handshake.
For now, I am using either the “touch my heart” method or the Namaste greeting. Who knows how long it will be before we are all comfortable again with touch? In the meantime, please accept this virtual hug…I hope to be shaking hands with many of you soon!
Make it a great day,
